Help Getting started

Getting started

Install SablePower, sign in or join your team, make a project, add a proxy and open your first profile.

What you need#

  • A computer: a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later), or a PC with Windows 10 or 11, 64 bit.
  • An account on a team, or an invitation code to make one. A VA gets the code from the team owner. A new team owner gets one from us. SablePower works only signed in to a team: there is no way to use it without an account.
  • Proxies, ideally one per account. A team profile cannot open without one. See Proxies.

Install SablePower#

Download the installer for your computer: SablePower for Mac (Apple Silicon) or SablePower for Windows. Both links always give the newest version.

On a Mac#

SablePower is not signed with an Apple developer certificate, so macOS stops it the first time. This is expected, and you do it once.

  1. Open the .dmg you downloaded and drag SablePower into Applications.
  2. Open SablePower from Applications. macOS says it cannot verify the app. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll down to the line about SablePower and click Open Anyway.
  4. Type your Mac password, then click Open Anyway once more. From now on it opens normally.

Always start SablePower from Applications, not from the .dmg window or from Downloads. Updates install into the copy in Applications.

On Windows#

The installer is not signed, so Windows SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC". This is expected, and you do it once.

  1. Run the installer you downloaded.
  2. If the blue SmartScreen window appears, click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer. Afterwards SablePower is in the Start menu.

Download the browser (once)#

SablePower is two downloads: the app, and the browser its profiles run in. On the first start a bar at the top says the browser is not installed yet. Press Download the browser and let it finish, about 135 MB, once. Profiles cannot open until it is there.

If the download fails, for example because an antivirus or VPN checks secure connections, the bar offers another way:

  1. Press Download in my web browser. Your usual browser downloads the same file, about 135 MB.
  2. Wait until it has finished and leave the file in Downloads as it is. Do not unpack it.
  3. Press Use the downloaded file. SablePower checks it is exactly the file this version needs and installs it.

Later, a bar may say Update the browser. That is a new build of the browser alone; your profiles stay as they are. See Updates.

The first screen has two ways in: Sign in with your email and password, or I have an invitation to make your account (below). Nothing in SablePower works before you sign in, and Sign out brings you back to this screen. A Sable Designs account is a third way in: Log in with Sable Designs.

Under the two buttons, Team server names the server your team works on. It is filled in for you: press Change only if you were given another address. Help and About are at the bottom; About shows the version and checks for a new one.

Log in with Sable Designs#

Under the two buttons: Have a Sable Designs account? and Log in with Sable Designs. It opens Sable Designs in your usual browser. Sign in there if you are not already, press Continue, and go back to SablePower: it carries on by itself.

  • No SablePower account yet: SablePower makes your team with the email address of your Sable Designs account. Give it a name and choose a SablePower password. Then pick a plan under Account: every plan starts with a free week, once per email address.
  • You already have a SablePower account with the same address: type your SablePower password once on each computer. After that, on that computer, Log in with Sable Designs signs you in with one click.
  • You are a VA in somebody's Sable Designs team: you join their SablePower team with an invitation, as below. Ask them for one.

Your SablePower password stays a separate password, and Sable Designs never sees it: it is what locks your team's data on your computers (see your password). If SablePower asks for it after a Sable Designs sign in, that is why.

Join your team#

  1. On the first screen press I have an invitation. If SablePower is signed in to another account: Account (the person at the bottom left), Sign out, then I have an invitation.
  2. The server address is already filled in. Leave it as it is, unless you were given a different one.
  3. Type the code exactly as you received it and press Continue. SablePower shows your email, the team you are joining and your role.
  4. Choose your own password, 12 characters or more, type it again, and press Create the account.
  5. A VA now sees an 8 digit verification code and waits to be let in (below). A new team owner is in straight away, on Account, Plan and billing: a new team has no plan, and every plan starts with a free week (how).

If SablePower asks for six digits from a letter, look for an email from the team server in your inbox and in spam.

Your password cannot be recovered#

Your password is what unlocks your team's data on your computer. Nobody has a copy: not the owner, not us, not the server. If it is lost, nobody can reset it. Save it in a password manager right away.

If you lose it anyway, the owner removes your account and sends you a new invitation. Your profiles are not lost: they belong to the team, not to you.

The 8 digit verification code#

After a VA signs up, SablePower shows Your verification code, 8 digits. Send it privately to whoever invited you, by message or by phone. They compare it with the code on their screen and let you in. This is how they know it is really you who used the invitation and not someone who saw the code.

Until then you can sign in and see the team, but nothing opens. The screen lets you through by itself once you are let in; Check again looks at once.

An invitation code lasts 48 hours and works once. If it says "the invitation has already been used" and you did not use it, tell whoever sent it: they remove that sign up and send you a new code.

Projects come first#

In a team, every profile lives inside a project. A project is a folder of profiles, and it is also what people are given access to: whoever has a project can work with the profiles in it. So the order is always: make a project, open it, then make profiles in it.

  1. On the left, find TEAM PROJECTS and press the + beside it. Name the project, for example after the creator or the platform.
  2. Click the project to open it. It is highlighted on the left.
  3. Now press New profile. The profile goes into the open project.

Only the owner and admins can make projects. A VA is given projects by the owner, and they show under TEAM PROJECTS. If SablePower says "In a team, every profile lives in a project", no project is open: pick one in that window, or click one on the left and try again.

Every profile lives in a team project: there are no folders on one computer only. Right click a project for Rename and Delete project.

Add a proxy#

  1. Click Proxies on the left.
  2. Press Paste a list and paste your proxies from the provider, one per line, for example host:port:user:pass. Or press Add proxy for one.
  3. Tick them and press Check, or press Check all. A working proxy shows its country and city.

More in Proxies and the proxy sheet. A VA does not see the team's sheet: they pick a proxy, or paste a new one, in a profile's Proxy tab when the owner gave them that right.

Make your first profile#

  1. With the project open, press New profile at the top left.
  2. Give it a name you will recognise, for example the account's handle.
  3. Pick its proxy on the Proxy tab. A team profile needs one.
  4. Leave the device and fingerprint as SablePower picked them. They describe a real computer, and the time zone and languages follow the proxy's country by themselves.
  5. Press Create.

Match the device to your computer. On a Mac use a Mac device, on a Windows PC a Windows device. A Windows device on a Mac gives itself away through the computer's built in voices, which cannot be changed. SablePower warns you and offers Use a Mac device or Use a Windows device.

Every setting in the profile window is explained in Edit profile.

Open, work, close#

  • Open on the profile's row opens it in its own browser window.
  • Its first tab is SablePower's start page: the address the sites see (Exit IP), its place, time zone and local time, and what the profile tells sites about itself. A green mark means the page reads the same value the profile should have. Check this profile has links to Pixelscan and BrowserScan; see what their results mean.
  • Close when you are done. Closing saves the profile to the team server, so the next person gets your session, logged in.
  • A team profile can be open on one computer at a time. See In use on another computer.

The sidebar, the checklist and Help#

On the left: New profile, then Our products and one line per section: Profiles, Shared with me (in a team), Proxies, Extensions, AI assistants, Users and Trash. Your projects are under TEAM PROJECTS; click its name to fold it, and again to open it.

At the bottom, one row of icons, from the left: What's new (the star), Getting started (the checklist), Help (the question mark), Settings (the gear) and Account (the person). Point at an icon to see its name.

Getting started opens a checklist of these same steps; point at its icon to see how many are done. Each one ticks itself when it is really done, and Show me points at the button to press. Help opens these pages in your browser, and the small ? next to some settings opens the right part of them.

Your email, the team server, this computer's name and the language are under Account, Profile. The language is also in Settings, General.

Profiles kept on this computer only, from before#

Up to version 1.6.1 SablePower could be used without an account, with profiles kept on one computer only. That is gone: you sign in, and every profile lives in your team. Profiles you kept on this computer can no longer be opened, and they are not deleted either: a bar above the list moves them to your team in one click, encrypted with the team key, with their logins and cookies. See Move to the team.
